I needed a storage unit for a year while we were renovating and this place was seamless and easy. There were always carts around. There was always space to unload and load. I went into the office a few times for various questions and they were always there, available, and could easily answer my questions. Marco the GM runs a great operation. With everything in DC generally being a pain (haha), this place really. made it easy for me.

Units are not true to size. I reserved a 5x5 unit and it is a 5x4 unit. So beware. I would suggest asking to see a unit and measuring to make sure you get what you pay for.

My unit was infested by rodents and my stored items were damaged. It was traumatic to say the least. I was still charged an additional $40 cleaning fee since I had left some items that were extensively rodent-damaged in the unit when I vacated. Furthermore, security is questionable - you need an access code for the gate but after that, the building can be accessed without a code through the side door and the elevators also do not ask for a code to access your floor. Would not recommend.

The staff was friendly, but this facility is in need of maintenance and repairs. 1. The HVAC system is not working properly - the 3rd floor where my unit was located has been blowing cold air for a while in the middle of winter. This week it felt like 35 degrees inside when it was 50 outside. When I'm paying for a "climate controlled" unit, an arctic climate is not what I had in mind. 2. Mice. I found droppings and food crumbs and chewed up candy wrappers in my unit. 3. The side rollup door on the parking ramp never works automatically, and I would often find it wide open - not very secure. 4. The metal stairs to the north building are severely rusted and will one day collapse and injure someone. For the price I was paying, $153.70/ month for a 5x5 unit, with all these deficiencies in the facilities, I am now renting a 10x15 unit at Extra Space, a much cleaner and much more secure facility.

The guy that help me was extremely respectful and professional. I reserve a unit for a particular size, once he should me the unit I decided to change the unit size. He had no problem showing me the new unit and getting me everything I needed. Plus I checked their prices against the other storage facility around the corner from them and Cubesmart's price was around $45 dollars lower. My advice to anyone who needs storage space check out Cubesmart!!

He was friendly and helpful in setting up the code and initial setup. Recently, I had a minor billing issue and Marco, the general manager, promptly responded to me. I am overall unhappy with this experience. The unit was difficult to get to and had no easy access. I had water damage on the boxes, but luckily the contents were spared (minus a book I was donating anyway). I was also unimpressed by the price increase about four months after I started the lease. I thought I was paying $55 per month but it went up to $75 per month without explanation. I realize the lease is very strict about refunds for prepaid months, but I paid less than 48 hours before vacating the unit. CubeSmart is renting my unit immediately because they are pretty full for the summer. I am aggrieved because they are double profiting and I was not able to recover any sort of refund. I would not go back here.

The office was helpful in getting me my storage unit promptly, and finding the best option for my needs. Facility seems clean enough, dolly’s are available for use. Only ~2 cars can move in at one time, we had to shuffle our parked cars so me and someone else could move in simultaneously. If you have a lock, I’d bring it yourself or you can buy one for $20. As my first storage unit experience, it went smoothly. Definitely recommend this location & service!

The experience with the staff was good when I first got the unit and they have been helpful and responsive when there have been issues previously. The problem is there are SO MANY basic issues: -The lock on my unit was tampered with and had to be replaced (I caught this) -I could not get in after hours on several occasions (including when I was moving items with a rental car) due to them setting up the code incorrectly -The hours the office is staffed seem to change on a whim -The last straw was being on my way out of town for the winter in a car on the way to the airport and needing to drop off two final items - none of the keypads worked - essentially locked out of my own storage unit despite the access hours being clearly posted in the app. For this unacceptable service, they raised my rate 30% with no notice. Needless to say I'll be canceling as soon as practicable.

We are brand new customers. The first time we went to our unit, my husband and car were trapped inside the gate for an hour because the code we were given did not work. It was 10am on a Tuesday, during office hours, and no one answered the phone to help. I eventually walked over from my house to try to get into the office to talk to someone, also with no success. After an hour, the manager happened by while he was "doing his rounds" (with no cell phone and the open sign flashing on an untended office?) and let my husband out. I emailed to request a new code and was given only a simple, "whoops, your code should work now!" as an explanation. In the middle of moving this was an unnecessarily frustrating experience. Terrible customer service. Going to talk to the facility around the corner today to see about getting a unit there .

the manager falsely accused me of tampering with the locks when i ducked into the entry corner to shield myself from the rain to use my phone. he refused to show me the video footage but after I kept insisting, he finally did. i tried to tell him that the footage doesn't actually show me doing anything it just shows me with my back to the camera ducking into the corner. he insisted what i was doing was tampering with the locks even though he never provided any evidence that the locks had even been tampered with. when i tried to explain that i was just trying to shield myself from the rain to use my phone he refused to listen to me. it was a thoroughly confusing experience and extremely insulting. luckily i found a much less expensive option elsewhere.

It is almost impossible to make a payment at this location recently. The past 3 months when I have gone to make a payment, I have been told that "their Internet is down" and they cannot process a payment. This means you have to pay on their website, which charges you a fee for the "convenience"...that fee is a percentage of the monthly rent. For me, this "convenience fee" was over $7 today. I feel bad for the employees their as they generally seem to want to help, but trouble tickets that they escalate to corporate are ignored and not resolved. I'm going to look into Extra Storage and consider shifting my business there. They are conveniently less than a block away. Cubesmart on Upshur is going downhill fast.

The staff at this location is excellent! They (Albert, Jade, and Marco) were not only personable but were very professional when it came to helping me determine the unit size that would best accommodate my needs. The check-in process simple, and any time I had a questions regarding consolidating my units, they were able to provide cost effective recommendations. The office and main building where my unit was located were always clean and well lit. 11/8/22 Updated posting after closing an additional unit. This remains a great storage unit due to Marco. He's the current manager, and continues to provide excellent customer service. I prefer to call the office rather than use the Cube Smart automated payment system, and Marco has made it a breeze for me to make my payments and receive an emailed receipt with one phone call. Call me old school but I prefer to talk with people vs. a machine. It's also obvious that he takes pride in keeping the buildings clean as I often see him making the rounds to ensure there is no trash or other items left in the hallways.

I am so pleased with the Upshur location team. Jade was super knowledgeable in my initial request for information and did a great job helping me find the cube space and size that was going to work for me. Her pleasant attitude and job knowledge is refreshing to see compared to other places in the industry that had a take or leave it attitude when selecting space, you won’t find that bad attitude here this team cares that you get what you need. Albert was also very helpful and friendly and went out of his way and coordinated with another manager to help me with the things that I needed. The last gentleman maybe named Mark I think, I can’t remember the name but he also helped me at this location and was super helpful and friendly as he assisted me with my pass code my first time. The crew is A1 and I will definitely recommend this location to my friends and family in the area. Keep up the good work. My only suggestion would be more parking for larger and more vehicles, but it’s the city so I understand. Again thanks again for everything.

The CubeSmart facility on Upshur is a disaster. Filthy dirty, mouse filled, frequently broken elevator and almost never had carts to move items. So glad to be out of there.

They even told us that the staff was notified and said nothing. America is too expensive for you to worry about our belongings being stolen when it's like another rent check. No security plus no action taken when I was told the district wizard knew. The extra space offered us 3 larger spaces at a cheaper price because of this. 1 street away. I'm downsizing and needed a place to store my things, and CubeSmart offered a satisfactory solution. I was initially going to with another storage venue that offered a "free" moving truck with the rental of a unit, and that turned out to a farce, littered with miscellaneous fees. I have used CubeSmart before in Brooklyn and had an overall pleasurable experience, and decided to reunite with CubeSmart. And what an intelligent decision that was. The service that I received from the manager, St. Clair, was impeccable. He was concise, very calm and also possessed a delightful sense of humor. I found him to be quite charming and an excellent representative for the CubeSmart brand. What you can expect here during your experience is a tour of the venue and possibly an upsell to a larger unit--just in case you require more space, and verification of the accuracy of your access code. Ask for St. Clair, and you are in good hands.

Freaking gave me the wrong code or didn’t check to see if my code worked. The lady on the day shift messed up. I couldn’t move out of my packed up apt 6am to the storage unit the day of move out. The manager the next day had to make things write. So I was late for my move out with my old landlord not only because the day time shift lady, but the manager wouldn’t shut up. The guy talked my ear off. Like shut up and just do your job bro. Smh. My friend got impatient waiting on the manager who had mid transaction with me stopped to answer the phone to what I can assume be an employee?! Come on bro! Smh. All while I’m 3 hrs late for my move out because they opened so late 9:30, and the lady messed up my code could get in The move out day, also the manager was friendly but clearly disgruntled about his employees incompetence. Scould in private not in public in front of customers. It not only makes the employee look incompetent it makes you and the facility look dumb for hiring her and continuing to tolerate their behavior. Smh.

Our experience here started off very well. We were able to start moving our belongings in the same day, weren't forced to pay a prorated fee since we were starting in the middle of the month, were able to receive a small promotional discount, etc. We were given a clear heads up about the broken elevator and how to use it (one person runs up the stairs to call the elevator while the other waits inside with the trolley), and the facility employees were always kind enough to offer us water and coffee. My concern lies with the automatic gate here which I've found the hard way is extremely dangerous and faulty. The sensors did not read our car, causing the gate to crash down onto the back windshield--it is now completely shattered. Had it come down on the front end my boyfriend could've been seriously injured. No one from the office ever even came to see if he was okay, offer assistance, an apology, nothing. If you use this facility, know that there is NOT enough time for you to enter your key code, get back in your car, and back out of the gate without it coming down on you. This is at least a two person job--one person to block the gate's sensors while the other backs the car/truck out safely. Do not try to move in and out of this location alone.

This was my first time dealing with a storage facility and Terrance Ross after inquiring what type of materials I wanted to store, was able to assist with the perfect size unit I needed then after escorting me to the unit explained the rules and regulations of when, and how to make payments and where to go to enter the facilities. He was very professional and while ensuring me of all of the safety rules and laws where I felt comfortable to be able to handle being able to store my goods for the length of time that I needed to use the Upshur street facility. Drove in from Ohio to pick up my daughter from college. Traffic was crazy and caused me to arrive 10 Mins before closing. I know it was an inconvenience but she still helped me with all my questions and needs. I even changed to a larger unit to store the zillion things my daughter had in her dorm room. I couldn't have pick a better location or staff to help me. Thank for all you do and not biting my head off forgetting into town later than anticipated. I highly recommend this location.

The staff is always extremely helpful. They go out of their way to make sure you have a good experience setting up the cube rental, answering any challenges you might face while renting, and for the move out process. We are seasonal and rent from them annually. Also each building has multiple access doors. Easy in and out with extended access hours.

We had a terrific experience with Cube Smart. They couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating to us, and they even went the extra mile to help store one of our enormous pallets from our overseas move in their private locker overnight when our shipping company left it in the hallway with no advance notice. The facility is extremely accessible and feels very secure. All in all, this location is top notch, with super friendly people, and great value. We would use them again without question.

Out of all the storage facilities I've had to use since college, this is by far the cleanest, friendliest and most secure facility I've used. The staff is personable and accommodating, which is wonderful. The facilities are well kept all around, and i appreciate that they accept packages for me at the front office. The staff at this CubeSmart facility is top notch! Whether over the phone or in person they have always been most helpful. Lee and Shanee do an excellent job of ensuring the best possibly experience. I've rented a unit here for several years and when I was ready to downsize my unit they helped make that move happen according to my schedule. I recommend this storage facility to anyone in DC with self-storage needs.

This is a great facility to store anything (clothes, furniture, etc.). Climate controlled and pest free. My only issues were that the elevator sometimes doesn't work, it's not 24/7 so you can't get to your stuff when you want and the staff can be unprofessional at times. They were nice to me but they had attitudes when I asked them questions. All-in-all, I would say it's the best storage facility in DC.
